G. Joseph Mitchell

Senior Pastor

George Joseph “Joe” Mitchell (affectionately known as “Pastor Joe”) announced his calling to ministry in October of 2006. March of the following year he would preach his trial sermon and be ordained in March of 2009. 

Pastor Joe received a B.A. in Business Management from Judson University in Elgin, IL, and a Master’s of Divinity from Northern Baptist Theological Seminary in Lombard, IL. He also earned his Doctorate of Ministry from the Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology at Virginia Union University, Richmond, VA. He was a part of the first cohort of the Compelling Preaching Initiative at Christian Theological Seminary. Pastor Joe is a proud member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.

For eight years, he has humbly served as Co-Pastor of New Hope beside his father, Rev. Dr. Leroy Mitchell, the founding pastor of New Hope. After 30 years of humble, faithful service, Dr. Mitchell retired in July 2017, and Pastor Joe transitioned from Co-Pastor to Senior Pastor.

Pastor Joe and First Lady Andria celebrated 24 years of marriage in October. God has blessed them with four beautiful children Nevaeh, Joseph, Nadia, and Ayana.

Over the years, Dr. Mitchell has been a part of several boards and committees. Most recently elected to the board of Trustees at his alma mater, Northern Seminary.  

As a humble servant of Jesus Christ, Pastor Joe continues to tirelessly dedicate himself to empowering others and advancing the Kingdom of God.
