Juneteenth Community Celebration

Celebration of Our Freedom Day!

The third annual Juneteenth community celebration was held at Hopkins Park in DeKalb. We had our largest gathering yet as we celebrated Juneteenth. Thank you to our local social services, vendors and volunteers! We enjoyed food, dancing, music, and our most popular event the paint n sip! We hope you’ll join us next year!

If you would like to help support this event with a monetary donation, we thank you for your support.

About Juneteenth

Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. On June 19, 1865, the Union soldiers landed at Galveston, Texas bringing the news the Civil War had ended and the enslaved were now free. This was two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation.
